Hello All,

I am CPT Peter Curley, currently stationed at FOB Warhorse, Iraq. I am
reaching out and asking for help supporting our troops deployed overseas
through the United Through Reading program.
The United Through Reading Program, going on its 20th year, is a nonprofit
organization that unites families facing physical separation by
facilitating the bonding experience of reading aloud together. Soldiers
deployed are giving the opportunity to read a book to their children while
being recorded, and then mail the book and DVD home.
I had the opportunity to use the United Through Reading Program, and just
like many other soldiers, it was a huge success at home. The children love
that their deployed parent is reading them a book, and the soldier has the
satisfaction of knowing they are still able to be a part of their child's
development. Unfortunately, the United Through Reading Program is
unavailable where my soldiers and I are currently stationed; however, I
hope that with your help we can change that.
I recently contacted the United Through Reading Program, and designated
myself as the Active Duty Coordinator for Forward Operating Base (FOB)
Warhorse. I have purchased a video camera and tripod, and currently have
an area in our sleep trailers established as our "recording booth."
However, I am unable to provide the soldiers with the program at this time
due to the lack of children's books and miniDVDs.
I am asking for your support by putting a soldier in touch with his/her
family. If you are willing, I am asking for miniDVDs, padded envelopes
that can hold a book inside it, cases for the miniDVDs, and most
importantly, children's books for all ages. As diverse as our Army is, so
are the soldiers' families.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I would be more than willing to
send pictures of this soon to be successful program back to anyone
interested. If you have any questions, my email address is:
peter.curley@us.army.mil. My Mailing Address is:
